If you are like many marketers who have explored or incorporated AI into your work, you may be asking yourself a different question that moves beyond the simple prompt and answer of early adoption. Now that the technology is here, where does that leave the marketer?
In Cincinnati, we know our community is on the front lines of understanding, not just how AI is reshaping the marketer’s role but how marketers are shaping AI.
To explore what marketers are really thinking about AI, AMA Cincinnati partnered with Helen Todd and the Tide Rise team to host a first-of-its-kind #RisingTideConvo. Bringing together a room of local practitioners for structured, small-group discussions, we captured a raw, real-time portrait of a profession actively negotiating its own identity. And how marketers in Cincinnati think of AI is outpacing the national curve such as understanding consumers actively seek human-created content and need for senior content strategists over junior copywriters.
Across multiple rounds of conversation, clear themes emerged. Here’s some of what our community is seeing.
Voice Is the Last Line of Defense
Across every group and every round, creative voice kept coming back: not as a preference, but as something worth protecting. Our members aren’t drawing their lines around efficiency or ROI. They’re drawing them around identity. The final email, the final newsletter, the final post: human-approved, every word.
You Can Start with AI or Finish with AI — But Not Both
Members arrived at this on their own, independently, across multiple conversations: AI works well as a launchpad or a landing strip. Cincinnati marketers realize that running the full process through AI produces something nobody owns.
Set It and Forget It Is Still a Fantasy
The marketing automation dream: deploy once, benefit indefinitely, isn’t the reality our members are living. AI workflows require constant iteration, tool-checking, and human stewardship. The time savings are real. The hands-off promise is not.

Ultimately, the marketers who will thrive in an AI-driven world won’t be those who know every trick or can bend their tools to their will. They’ll be the ones who bring imagination, oversight, and an authentic human voice to their work.
As one of our members put it: “I feel like AI needs me more than I need it.”
